VVS Laxman has been appointed as the head coach of the Indian men’s cricket team for the 2026 Asian Games
VVS Laxman, Head of BCCI Center of Excellence, is all set to coach the Indian men’s cricket team at the 2026 Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan.

BCCI Center of Excellence Head VS Laxman will take charge of the Indian men’s team at the upcoming 2026 Asian Games to be held in Aichi Nagoya, Japan later this month.
Laxman will be assisted by Sunil Joshi, Hrishikesh Kanitkar and Subhadeep Ghosh, according to the list of coaches released by the Sports Ministry.
India’s coaching staff and title defence
The batsman great had also coached the Indian men’s team at the 2023 Asian Games in Hangzhou, China, where India won the gold medal.
Head coach Gautam Gambhir will be with the senior team for the home ODI series against West Indies, the first ODI scheduled to be played on September 27.
The Asian Games cricket competition will begin on September 24, with India scheduled to play its opening match four days later.
Amol Muzumdar will continue as the head coach of the Indian women’s national team. He will be assisted by bowling coach Avishkar Salvi and fielding coach Munish Bali.
The Indian women’s team will enter the competition in the quarter-finals and face Japan, while the men’s team will face the second-placed team from Group A, which includes Afghanistan, Japan and Nepal.
In cricket, India will defend their Asian Games men’s T20 title under skipper Shreyas Iyer, with teenage batsman Vaibhav Suryavanshi also part of the squad. The Indian women’s team will also defend its title and will be led by Harmanpreet Kaur.
