Caribbean Premier League 2026 Match Report Shimron Hetmyer leads Guyana Amazon Warriors to nine-round Premier League win over Trinbago Knight Riders

Guyana Amazon Warriors continued their unbeaten run with a nine-game (DLS) win over Trinbago Knight Riders at Queens Park Oval in Trinidad on Monday. A century from Shimron Hetmyer helped the Warriors to a grand tally of 185 in a contest that was curtailed by rain for 16 runs. Mohammad Nabi then picked up three wickets to impress the Knight Riders, who despite Alex Hales’ best efforts, could not get over the line.

When asked to bat first, the Warriors were given an early shock by Akhil Hossain who removed Glenn Phillips and conceded just one run in the first over. The pressure intensified with Sunil Narine following up by running over another umpire. Shai Hope broke free and hit two sixes but was dismissed by Lahiru Kumara in the fourth over. Then rain intervened and delayed the proceedings for more than 90 minutes.

Once play resumed, Hetmyer controlled the ball. He started by hitting Jyd Goolie for successive sixes in the seventh over before taking Kumara for two fours and a six in the next over. The struggling Matthew Nondo was pulled out at the end of the ninth over after making a 21-ball 13. Hetmyer went on and brought up a 27-ball fifty before smashing a 30-run 13th over bowled by Kumara.

Support from the other end soon arrived as Romario Shepherd dropped Dominic Drakes for 27 runs in the 15th over. Hetmyer then hit his century with a six in the final over as the Warriors finished on 185 for 5 from 16 overs.

Chasing a revised target of 182, the Knight Riders, who were without skipper Kieron Pollard due to injury, started well by scoring 52 for 1 in 4.5 overs in the Powerplay. While Narine fell early, Colin Munro and Nicholas Pooran shared a quick 35-run stand to get their side off to a strong start. However, Naby struck immediately after playing restrictions were eased and Monroe was removed. This led to a shocking collapse as TKR fell from 52 for 1 to 68 for 5 in the space of three overs.

Hales led the fight, first with a 43-run stand with Hussain and then a 39-run partnership with Drakes. 40 runs were needed from the last two overs when Hales fell immediately after reaching his fifty. Joshua Da Silva hit some boundaries to keep the contest alive but the Knight Riders were unable to score the 24 runs required from the final over.
