Asian Games 2026 – Teams can make their own hotel arrangements, says Japan Cricket Association CEO

Teams participating in the upcoming Asian Games in Japan can make their own hotel arrangements, Japan Cricket Association chief executive Naoki Alex Miyagi said, after concerns were raised about the accommodation options offered.

“The ACC is discussing accommodation options with AINAGOC [Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games Organising Committee] For a long time,” Miyagi told PTI. “Hotel accommodation is provided for teams participating in cricket. Many other sports are accommodated in very limited facilities such as cruise ships or container hotels. Teams are free to arrange their accommodation if they so choose.”

Miyagi also talked about the logistical arrangements and facilities that will be provided to the players during the competition.

“Toilets will be available inside the players’ area,” he said. “There are temporary and permanent facilities in place. The facilities on the ground are temporary, but AINAGOC has worked closely with the ACC for over a year now to ensure the best facilities are provided within the limited timeline and facility constraints.

“Although temporary, the facilities [make-shift dressing rooms] It will provide as comfortable a space as possible for players and officials. There are also permanent facilities around the ground that will be available to players.”

Korogi Sports Park in Nisshin is scheduled to host men’s and women’s cricket competitions from September to October. The venue also hosted the East Asia Pacific Men’s T20 World Cup Qualifier earlier this year.

“They only had 17 months to prepare [the ground] “We had to start from scratch because there were no cricket fields of any standard in Aichi Prefecture,” Miyagi said. “Given the limited time and resources available, AINAGOC and ACC worked together to ensure the playing facilities were suitable.

“It will be a full-sized ground with grass pitches and hybrid pitches prepared by the best curators, which Sri Lanka Cricket should be credited with providing. There are limits to what they can do within these tight confines, but from what I have seen, the playing surface and field will be the best that has been seen in cricket’s inclusion in the Asian Games.”

The men’s competition will be held from September 24 to October 3, while the women’s tournament will start on September 17 and end on September 22.
