Next year’s inaugural Women’s Champions Trophy has been moved from Sri Lanka to India by the International Cricket Council.
Sri Lanka was due to host the six-team event, but was stripped of its hosting rights due to ongoing issues with its national council and government interference.
A statement from the ICC said Sri Lanka Cricket continues to “make the required reforms” identified at the global governing body’s annual conference in July.
Bangladesh and South Africa were also interested in staging the tournament, but the ICC board approved India as an alternative host for the event, with matches to be played in Mumbai and Vadodara.
Unlike the men’s Champions Trophy, which is a 50-team competition, the women’s event will be a T20 tournament.
It will be held in a round-robin league system, with the top two teams qualifying for the final match.
Australia, England, India, New Zealand, South Africa and Sri Lanka are the six teams that will take part, having been the highest-ranked teams at the qualifying deadline on 6 July.
