Vaibhav Sooryavanshi’s astonishing rise has prompted the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to take a long-term view on his development, with secretary Devajit Saikia insisting that the 15-year-old must be poised for sustained success. The board wants the teenager to follow the path of legends like Sachin Tendulkar and build a lasting international career.
The future of Sooryavanshi was discussed in BCCI’s high-level review meeting in Mumbai on Thursday. Speaking after the meeting, Saikia said the board is keeping a close eye on the youngster, while his participation in the Duleep Trophy final will depend on India coach Gautam Gambhir’s decision.
“We want Vaibhav Suryavanshi or any player to continue in his stature and serve as Sachin Tendulkar did for the country or other players who in the past became legends,” Saikia said.
“So we are looking at Vaibhav in a very serious way. He is being watched from every angle and every step he takes forward in his international career. BCCI is taking a hard look at his future.”
Saikia explained that the board’s priority is to protect Sooryavanshi’s long-term prospects rather than seeking immediate results.
“We are very keen to take every right step forward so that it is not one series or one year,” Saikia added.
