The fourth day will witness the start of the second round of the US Open, and there are 16 matches scheduled for women. There are plenty of top players and title contenders in the competition, and as always, we here at LWOT will be predicting the matches for you. We divided the 16 matches between four articles; Other articles are featured Aryna Sabalenka vs Polina Iatsenko, Marta Kostyuk vs Sloane Stephensand Elina Svitolina vs. Maya Joint. Predicting these matches are Amanda Bergman, Tope Aoki, and Elimona Onkoto. Who do you think will come forward?
US Open The fourth day, women’s expectations
Ekaterina Alexandrova vs. Kimberly Beryl
Amanda:
Alexandrova has had some wild ups and downs in the past few weeks, but she showed some of her best tennis in the first round and has been consistent at the US Open the past few years. Birrell made it through the first round, but had a five-match losing streak going into the tournament and many of those losses came to players much worse than Alexandrova.
Prediction: Alexandrova at 2
Top:
Alexandrova mercilessly outclassed Kesler in just over an hour, the head-to-head match already in her favour, and she began to take a clear lead against Birrell. But the Australian is used to getting past big names, so if Birrell can pull that into long rallies and use her comeback resolve, don’t be surprised if she pushes Alexandrova to a decider.

Ekaterina Alexandrova is seeded 18th and is having the best season of her career, breaking into the top 20 with her aggressive fundamental style. Kimberly Birrell is a consistent competitor who has made it through her opening bout but is still searching for a signature win at this level. This first meeting favors Alexandrova’s strength and confidence.
Prediction: Alexandrova at 2
Sorana Cirstea vs. Diane Barry
Amanda:
Barry was one of the stars of the run-up to the US Open, where he reached the round of 16 in Cincinnati and built that momentum to take the title in Monterrey. It will be difficult to beat Cirstia, one of the most in-form players this season, but this is one of the most exciting second round matches for the women and should be close.
Prediction: Cirstia at 3
Top:
Diane Barry is riding a six-game winning streak into this match, following Monterrey glory and a gritty 7-5 6-4 win over Viktoria Golubic, but Cirstea’s powerful volley, after demolishing Julia Graber 6-3 6-0, is the perfect pressure test of that momentum. Expect fireworks: fast pace against the cunning variety, in one of the toughest battles of the second round. The Romanian has more active legs and should win this match.

Sorana Cirstea is the 16th seed and moved through the opener in relative comfort. Diane Parry has also stepped up and has a left-handed game that can create angles and trouble higher-ranked opponents. This is their first meeting, and Cirstea’s experience should help her deal with Parry’s diversity.

Anna Kalinskaya vs. Xinyu Wang
Amanda:
Both Kalinskaya and Wang looked strong in their first-round matches, and they had similar results heading into the US Open. Being seeded, Kalinskaya is the favorite, but it will be by no means an easy match.

Top:
Anna Kalinskaya came out of a shaky and controversial opener as Xinyu Wang passed Arango on the straights. The Russian will carry the crowd’s sympathy and a 2-1 head-to-head win in this match, but she will need to shake off the drama quickly against Wang, who is playing with nothing to lose and a strong match tailored to this kind of ambush in the second round, but Kalinskaya must make it three out of three on the hard courts.

Anna Kalinskaya is seeded 21st and has established herself as a consistent top 25 player on all surfaces this season. Wang Xinyu passed Emiliana Arango in the first round and has a strong baseline to withstand the matches. This first match is supposed to test whether Kalinskaya is able to maintain her high level against a player who loves to dictate matters from behind the court.

Jessica Pegula vs. Sofia Kenin
Amanda:
Pegula won 4-2 over Kenin and, although nervous, was never in doubt in her opening match. She can keep up with Kenin in every area of the court and is playing much better tennis at the moment, which should make room for an easy win.
Prediction: Pegula at 2
Top:
Jessica Pegula’s rating and form in 2026 (69.74% win rate over the year) makes her the favorite over Kenin who has a 6-20 record this season, and their head-to-head match-ups are putting things her way. Expect the American power play to dominate this All-American from the baseline, with Kenin good for the set but not surprising.

Jessica Pegula is the third seed and coming off a strong final round in Cincinnati, so her hardcourt game has been called upon. Sofia Kenin beat Venus Williams in a late first-round match and will need to recover quickly both physically and mentally. Pegula’s consistency from the baseline and superior finishing form made her a tough task in the second round.
Prediction: Pegula at 2
