The fourth day will witness the start of the second round of the US Open, and there are 16 matches scheduled for women. There are plenty of top players and title contenders in the competition, and as always, we here at LWOT will be predicting the matches for you. We divided the 16 matches between four articles; Other articles are featured Aryna Sabalenka vs Polina Iatsenko, Elina Svitolina vs. Maya Jointand Jessica Pegula vs. Sofia Kenin. Predicting these matches are Amanda Bergman, Tope Aoki, and Elimona Onkoto. Who do you think will come forward?
US Open Day 4 Forecast for Women
Karolina Muchova vs. Katie Poulter
Amanda:
Playing for the first time since Wimbledon, Muchova did not miss a step in her dominant opening match. Poulter looked shakier, and in the match the two played this year Muchova won in straight sets. A recurrent outcome is the most likely outcome.

Poulter recovered from a second-set slump against Beagle Lee in her opener, but the second round brought a tougher test against Karolina Muchova, who had just come back in straight sets and already held a 1-0 lead over the Briton this year. Poulter’s raw power gives her a chance to strike, but Muchová’s touch and devastating variety of tempo make her the clear choice going forward.

Karolina Muchova is the seventh seed and has reached at least the quarterfinals in her last three appearances at the tournament US Open. Katie Poulter is a top 30 player, got through her opening match cleanly and has an all-round game that makes life difficult. This first meeting should be competitive, but Muchova’s record in New York speaks for itself.

Emma Navarro vs. Katie McAnally

In a rematch of this exact run last year, Navarro and McNally will face off for the fifth time in their careers. Last year’s match was a straight-sets win for Navarro, but McNally’s better play combined with Navarro’s tendency to play three sets should make this match a bit more complicated. However, Navarro is the favorite and has won more of his matches on hard courts.
Prediction: Navarro at 3
Top:
Emma Navarro’s bravery through three sets in the rain against Louis Poisson versus McNally’s clinical outing in straight sets against Kaufermans makes for an all-American showdown. With the head-to-head tie, expect fireworks in this game and the older American comes out on top.

Emma Navarro survived a tough three-set opener against Louis Poisson and will be happy to have match fitness. Caty McNally has also stepped up and has the kind of aggressive rushing game that can disrupt the rhythm. Both will have crowd support, and this first meeting may come down to who will handle the big moments better.

Leylah Fernandez vs Mananchaya Sawangkaew
Amanda:
Sawangkaew is quickly rising up the rankings and had little trouble in her first round, but Fernandez has taken a step forward. Although Fernandes is inconsistent from tournament to tournament, this part of the season is always where she finds her best tennis and she is tough on this surface, something Sawangkaew has not quite reached yet.
Prediction: Fernandes at 2
Top:
Sawangkaew’s strong run through the playoffs and 44-18 season earned her a real shot, but Layla Fernandez’s big-game pedigree makes her a tougher prospect under the Ashe spotlight. Expect a volatile and seesaw battle before Fernandez’s experience ends it.

Layla Fernandez is a former New York finalist and earned her opening match against Zhang Shuai with a strong play. Mananchaya Sawangkaew is competing for a protected classification and will try to use her speed to extend the rallies. This is their first meeting, and Fernandez’s experience in New York should help her get over any early nerves.

Marta Kostyuk vs Sloane Stephens
Amanda:
Stevens is finding form after a slow first half of the season, including a first-round upset over Clara Towson here. She has also played Kostyuk close to Cincinnati and can keep this match equally competitive, especially in front of the home Slam crowd. Kostyuk has been consistent enough this season to qualify, but it will be a tough match.

The 2017 champion Sloane Stephens faces a tough test against world No. 11 Marta Kostyuk, whom she beat in straight sets in Cincinnati, but has never made it past the fourth round at Flushing Meadows, a rare weakness in a strong Grand Slam record. He expected Stephens to paint on it US Open Lineage and love of these circumstances, to make this battle much tougher.

Marta Kostyuk has been one of the most exciting players on the tour since the spring and is ranked 11th after that. Wimbledon Semi-final round. Sloane Stephens ended a run of five straight Grand Slam defeats with a first-round win and knows how to raise her game on home turf. This is their first meeting, and Kostyuk’s recent form will be tested by Stevens’ defensive skills and crowd support.
