‘Unfair’: Ashwin slams selectors over Zimbabwe’s Sanju Samson snub | Cricket news

New Delhi: Former India player Ravichandran Ashwin He strongly criticized selectors for their departure Sanju Samson Left out of India’s T20I squad for the upcoming tour of Zimbabwe, he called the decision “unfair”. Ashwin also warned that frequent changes in the squad could create insecurity among players and hurt India’s T20 preparation.Speaking on his YouTube show Ash Ki Baat, Ashwin said he completely disagreed with the decision.“I mean, what can I say? It’s unfair. It’s unfair. I don’t agree with it. But that’s the way it is. I mean, I don’t know. Seriously, it’s tough.”Ashwin questioned the logic behind dropping Samson after a few poor results and wondered who would be next if the team kept losing.“Sanju has been left out because of the losses and the form. He has been left out. We have already lost two matches. If we lose again, will someone else be left out too? Who’s next? This is wrong. I really hope the Indian team finds the same. Indian cricketers should not be put in an unsafe position.”Samson’s omission has become one of the biggest talking points in Indian cricket. The wicketkeeper-batsman, who was named Player of the Tournament in this year’s T20 World Cup, has managed scores of 5, 0 and 1 in his last three innings against Ireland and in the opening T20I against England.Samson was replaced in the starting XI by 15-year-old batsman Vaibhav Suryavanshi and was later left out of the squad bound for Zimbabwe.Ashwin said such decisions could make players think more about protecting their places than winning matches.“As I said earlier after the SKY incident, players will become isolated. They will start thinking only about themselves. In T20 cricket, this is disastrous.”“If batsmen start thinking they will be dropped if they don’t score runs, they will start playing just to protect their place in the team, which is very dangerous.”Ashwin added that even if Samson gets another chance, the pressure of holding his place might affect the way he bats.“Even now I say, imagine Sango gets another chance. He too will start thinking about himself. And you can’t even say that’s wrong.”“If Sanju scores 45 or 48 off 25 balls and makes two more runs to get to his fifty, you can’t say that’s a mistake because he’s trying to protect his place in the team. “I really hope… I really hope they find a solution to this.”Ashwin also argued that a good domestic season should not automatically guarantee a call-up to the India national team, while hitting back at suggestions that players like Prabhsimran Singh deserve opportunities after impressive performances.“In our TNPL team, there is a player named Hunny Saini. He is a very good player and an excellent player. He also wants to get a chance. There is BR Sharad of Bengaluru Dragons, who is also playing well. If you are asking when they should get a chance, send them to Zimbabwe as well. “I’ll send Honey Signe too.”“Look, I have all the time for Prabhsimran Singh. He is a very good player. He has had excellent performances. He has scored more than 500 runs.”“Does he deserve a break? Maybe he does. Maybe it’s debatable. But nowhere is it written that scoring 500 runs in one season automatically guarantees a call-up to the Indian national team,” Ashwin said.
