41-year-old Vinod Khanna, who was one of the highest-paid actors of his time, reportedly took a pay cut for an intimate scene with Madhuri Dixit, who was almost half his age.
Many reports and social media rumours claim that Khanna agreed to cut his fee for the 1988 blockbuster film Dayavan for a controversial lip-lock scene with Madhuri Dixit.
At that time, Madhuri was half his age and was very reluctant and had expressed her discomfort to director Feroz Khan. There were several legal notices against the controversial scene, but the filmmaker was adamant about keeping it.
According to reports, the kissing scene allegedly went beyond what Madhuri had expected. Vinod Khanna reportedly continued kissing the then-20-year-old actress even after director Feroz Khan called for a cut.
The scene allegedly lasted several minutes, with reports claiming that Madhuri’s lips were bitten, leaving her bleeding and deeply uncomfortable. Vinod later apologised to her for the incident.
The scene continued to attract criticism after Dayavan hit theatres. Reports state that Feroz Khan received a legal notice seeking the removal of the sequence, while Madhuri herself is said to have requested that it be taken out.
The scene was retained, with reports claiming that Madhuri was offered compensation of Rs 1 crore. Despite the film becoming a blockbuster, she never worked with Vinod Khanna again.
In an old interview, as reported by Jansatta.com, Madhuri reportedly recalled being unaware of how the intimate scene would be filmed. She said that even years later, watching the sequence on screen left her shocked.
