The adventure is over: Neymar officially announces his international retirement

Neymar da Silva has put his international career on hold after an arduous run at the 2026 World Cup in the United States, Canada and Mexico.
The Santos striker joined the Brazil squad that lacks full fitness. He only managed to play a few minutes over two matches, with his only goal coming from a penalty kick against Norway in the round of 16.
Norway eliminated Samba at that particular stage, winning 2-1 to condemn Brazil to the World Cup once again without the trophy that had eluded them since 2002.
When asked at the end of the press conference whether he would participate in the 2030 World Cup, Neymar said frankly: “My adventure with the national team is over. I made history there, and I am very happy about that.”

At 34 years old, Neymar’s contract with Santos will expire at the end of 2026. His next move will be determined after that.
