New Secretariat Complex, Olympic City, Motorsport City: CM Vijay’s big plans for Tamil Nadu

In a major boost to administration and infrastructure, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay on Thursday announced plans to set up a new integrated complex for the association and secretariat. He also informed that the state government will set up Tamil Nadu Olympic City and Motor Sports City in Chennai.

These three major development initiatives aim to strengthen the country’s infrastructure and global standing.

The new General Secretariat and Assembly complex
The proposed Secretariat and Assembly complex will be spread over an area of 20,000 square feet and will integrate all state government departments, news agency PTI reported. The complex will be constructed at an estimated cost $1,200 Crores. The “eco-friendly” facility will contain the following:
- It will have conference halls and public service centers.
- Advanced facilities such as fire safety systems and accessibility infrastructure for people with disabilities.
- The complex will contain ample parking and modern facilities for government employees.
The historic buildings within Fort St. George will be preserved as a heritage site for future generations.
“The new project is estimated at $“The Rs 1,200-crore facility will be spread over 20,000 square feet in Chennai, integrating all government departments into a modern, accessible and eco-friendly facility while preserving the heritage of the existing Fort St George,” Vijay said.
“The government controls only a small portion (about 4 acres) of the 107-acre Fort St George campus, while the rest is managed by the Ministry of Defense and Archaeological Survey of India,” the Prime Minister added.
He also explained that in order to ensure efficient administration, it is necessary to integrate all government departments into one modern and easily accessible complex.

The exact location of the construction site within the city has not been determined.

Tamil Nadu Olympic City
Vijay announced the setting up of the Tamil Nadu Olympic City in Chennai and said that it will be developed by the Tamil Nadu Sports Development Authority.
News agency ANI reported that the Olympic City aims to create an integrated sports center that will provide athletes with advanced training and support facilities.
Key points will include:
- The Olympic City will contain world-class sports arenas.
- It will be equipped with the latest sports equipment
- The facility will also include dedicated centers for sports science and sports medicine.
- It will also have a high-performance training centre.
The facility will contain modern infrastructure such as accommodation for athletes and coaches.
Motorsport city in Tamil Nadu
Chief Minister Vijay announced the setting up of a motor sports city in Chennai to host Formula 1-4 races.
