Siddle, 41, remains part of the BBL’s Melbourne Stars squad and will field for NSW in all Sheffield Shield matches. He joins Peter Forrest and Daniel Smith as part of Hadden’s coaching team.
Siddle played the majority of his state career with Victoria but also spent three seasons with Tasmania.
“It’s very exciting to be joining the NSW Blues this season,” Siddle said. “I’m very much looking forward to the opportunity to coach this talented group of players ahead of what will be a tremendous summer. I can’t wait to get around to it.”
Meanwhile, Botha, who resigned as Queensland coach earlier this year, will work with the team on an interim basis.
Hadden said: “The addition of Peter and Johan to the Blues squad shows that we are committed to having high-quality people around the team.” “Not only does Peter bring a wealth of experience and knowledge, he embodies how we want our cricketers to play the game.
He added: “We are confident that we have built a fully integrated coaching team ahead of what should be an exciting season for the Blues.”
Apart from Australia’s big three players – Mitchell Starc, Pat Cummins and Josh Hazlewood – who rarely play state cricket due to international commitments, NSW fast stocks include Liam Hatcher, part of the Australia A team touring India, youngster Ryan Hadlee, all-rounder Jack Edwards, experienced Sean Abbott and left-arm spinner Ben Dwarshuis.
In the spin department, Joel Davies will tour Zimbabwe and South Africa with the ODI side while Tanveer Sangha is part of the white-ball tour for Australia’s trip to India.
New South Wales begins their season with a One Day Cup match against Queensland on 22 September, with the opening Sheffield Shield match on 8 October against Tasmania.
