‘This is really bad’: Michael Vaughan criticizes ticket price increase for next year’s Edgbaston Ashes Test
Former England captain Michael Vaughan has expressed his dismay at a 43 per cent increase in ticket prices for next year’s Ashes match at Edgbaston. In fact, ticket prices are rising across UK sports, due to inflation.
Edgbatson will host the third game of a five-series rubber from July 8-12. The 6,000 seats in the Hollies Stand cost £165 each. The last time Australia toured England in 2023, seats here cost £115. This height does not suit Vaughan. Elsewhere in the stadium, adult tickets are available for £115 for the first three days with a booking fee of £2.50. However, members can purchase it for £92.
“This is really bad,” Vaughan posted.
An Edgbaston Stadium spokesperson said: “Our prices for the 2027 Ashes Test are very much in line with other host venues and major British sporting events such as Wimbledon and Formula 1 at Silverstone.”
“Our entry level ticket prices are almost in line with inflation compared to the last time Australia visited Edgbaston in 2023 – but like the rest of the country, we are battling rising costs and trying to manage these costs where we can.”
The stadium will also host the third and final Test against Pakistan, starting September 9. Tickets are priced between £57.50 and £87.50 for adults, but are not yet sold out. The only plausible reason might be the lackluster Pakistani show in the series. In their first two Test matches at Headingley and Lord’s, they performed poorly, especially with the bat and timidly surrendered the series. Now they are looking to avoid bleach. It’s been a chaotic series for them so far. Following the defeat at Lord’s, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) sacked the head Test coach Sarfaraz Ahmed And bowling coach Omar Guland seven players were asked to return home. Muhammad Rizwan, Imam-ul-Haq, Salman Ali Agha, Ali Usman, Aamir Jamal, Muhammad Owais Zafar and Khurram Shehzad were released from the squad after the Lord’s Test.
Anyway, back on the topic of Edgbaston ticket price, it’s understandable why tickets haven’t sold out yet. If the touring team performs poorly, interest among fans automatically goes down, but as far as the time-honored Ashes is concerned, there is next-level interest among fans. But unfortunately, they will now have to shell out more money to enjoy the competition.
