“He’s got it all,” Lloyd said. “I think he’s an international cricketer. England have been very good in recent years at identifying talent, expanding it and pushing it forward, and I think they can do that with Flintoff,” he added.
Lloyd has also coached and played for Lancashire and knows Andrew Flintoff well. Since he has been associated with cricket all his life, one can safely say that there must be something special about Rocky otherwise Lloyd would not be so effusive in his praise.
Stephen Croft walks the line
Lloyd isn’t the only one who thinks Rocky has huge potential. Lancashire coach Stephen Croft also expressed his great admiration for the way Rocky followed. Croft was particularly impressed that Rocky, always under pressure due to his association with Andrew Flintoff, did not let it affect him. It should be noted that the elder Flintoff coached his son at the England Lions before stepping down earlier this month.
“Naturally the pressure will follow him, unfortunately, because of his title, but he has been up to the task so far,” Lancashire coach Stephen Croft told BBC Sport.
“The way he played in this competition was fantastic. That first hundred for him [against Somerset] Huge. To get his first goal… I wouldn’t say that far… but he knows now he can do it at this level. The next step for him is to do so at first-class level. He added that he learns very quickly.
