Your eyes can predict health problems long before you feel them

Sudden blurred vision, double vision, loss of vision, unusual floaters, or changes in eye movement can sometimes indicate neurological conditions that require immediate medical attention.
“Other changes that can occur from inside the eye or related to vision can help diagnose other serious diseases. These include yellowing of the whites of the eyes associated with liver disease such as jaundice, puffy eyes due to thyroid problems, and blurred vision due to a neurological problem or stroke,” Dr. Banga noted.
Likewise, Dr. Anand warns against ignoring seemingly minor symptoms.
“The small blood vessels and nerves that run through your eye provide a unique view of what may be going on in the body. Blurred vision, sudden vision changes, chronic eye strain, dryness or unexpected floaters are signs you should not ignore as a matter of routine inconvenience.”
Neurological disorders such as multiple sclerosis, stroke, brain tumors, and optic nerve disease can sometimes be detected through changes noted during an eye exam. In some cases, these observations lead to further testing that eventually detects a serious condition at a treatable stage.
