A former Real Madrid striker proved he is the star of the show, as the new La Liga season kicked off on Saturday evening.
Deportivo Alaves hosted Getafe a short time ago, as part of the start of the 2026/27 season in the Spanish Football League.
After all, the hosts cruised to a 3-0 win, taking full advantage of Kiko Femenia’s sending off late in the first half.
The aforementioned Mariano Diaz played a direct role in all three goals.
Introduced as a substitute early in the second half, Mariano wasted little time making his presence felt. After providing the assist for the first time in Alaves’ opener, the 33-year-old became a late scorer, before registering another assist in stoppage time.
As Opta statisticians have since revealed, Mariano secured for himself a noteworthy piece of individual history:
“Mariano Díaz has been involved in three goals in one La Liga match (one goal and two assists) for the first time in his career (80 matches).”
