Stree is back: Actress Shraddha Kapoor takes over the internet as Lavani legend Vithabai in leaked Eetha teaser

Shahid Kapoor, Rashmika Mandanna and Kriti Sanon’s Cocktail 2 hit theatres today (June 19). Attached to the theatrical release was the much-awaited teaser of Shraddha Kapoor‘s upcoming film Eetha. While audiences walked into cinemas expecting a romantic entertainer, many left talking about Shraddha’s striking new avatar. Within hours, clips and screenshots from the teaser began circulating online, and fans could not stop praising the actress’ transformation into legendary Lavani performer Vithabai Bhau Mang Narayangaonkar.

After winning hearts with Stree 2 in 2024, Shraddha is now preparing for a completely different role. If the teaser is any indication, Eetha could showcase the actress in one of the most challenging performances of her career.

Shraddha Kapoor transforms into Vithabai for Eetha

The teaser gives only a brief glimpse into the life of Vithabai Bhau Mang Narayangaonkar, one of Maharashtra’s most celebrated Tamasha and Lavani artists. However, those few moments have already managed to create significant excitement among movie lovers.
One of the teaser’s most powerful sequences shows Shraddha as Vithabai preparing for a stage performance despite being heavily pregnant. The teaser suggests that even after giving birth backstage, the performer remains determined to step in front of the audience.

A particularly emotional moment arrives when she is warned about the dangers of performing in her condition. In response, her character declares that she would rather be remembered as a legend who died dancing than as someone who gave up. The dialogue went viral in no time.
The teaser then shifts through several glimpses of Vithabai’s life, showing her passion for performance, her struggles and her unwavering commitment to the art form that made her famous.

Fans declare Shraddha’s comeback is here

Soon after the teaser surfaced online, social media platforms were flooded with reactions. Many fans described the performance as intense, emotional and visually stunning despite the teaser’s short duration.

One fan wrote on X that Shraddha’s screen presence, expressions and acting were so impressive that the role felt worthy of major awards. Another user said the actress had returned “with a bang” and looked completely convincing in the role.

Announcing that ‘Stree is back’, several viewers were particularly impressed by her transformation into the iconic folk artist. One social media user praised every frame of the teaser, calling it visually beautiful and saying Shraddha appeared to be fully immersed in the character. Another fan admitted getting goosebumps after watching the footage and said the actress seemed born to play the role.

Many users also predicted that Eetha could become a defining project in Shraddha Kapoor’s career. Some even called it one of the strongest teaser launches of the year and said they were already looking forward to watching the film on the first day.

What is Eetha about?

Directed by Laxman Utekar, Eetha is inspired by the life of Vithabai Bhau Mang Narayangaonkar, a legendary name in Maharashtra’s Tamasha and Lavani traditions. The title itself comes from a regional pronunciation of “Vitha,” the artist’s popular nickname.

The film is expected to trace Vithabai’s remarkable journey from the 1940s through the 1990s, exploring both her rise to fame and the personal and professional challenges she encountered along the way.

Apart from Shraddha Kapoor, the film also features Randeep Hooda and Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub in important roles. Backed by Maddock Films and produced by Dinesh Vijan, the biographical drama aims to bring the story of one of Maharashtra’s most influential folk performers to a wider audience.

Beyond being a biopic, Eetha is also expected to celebrate the rich cultural heritage of Maharashtra and shine a spotlight on the Tamasha art form that entertained generations. Stay tuned!
