Thane-based model Antara Banerjee, 31, was arrested after an altercation with Railway Protection Force (RPF) personnel aboard the Aravali Express on August 12. Police alleged that Banerjee, who was travelling to Surat for a shoot, had entered a reserved AC coach despite holding a sleeper-class ticket.

As per a report in Free Press Journal, the situation reportedly escalated after a passenger asked Banerjee to vacate a reserved seat. When she refused, the passenger informed ticket collector Harikesh Tripathi, who then alerted the RPF.

The incident took place between Borivali and Dahanu between around 9.30pm and 10.50pm. According to the FIR, RPF assistant sub-inspector Yaminikant Mishra and constable Rajesh Kumar intervened after being alerted about the dispute.

Police alleged that the model-actress abused the officials and became violent during the confrontation. Mishra alleged that she then undressed, brandished a razor blade and attacked him, leaving him injured. Police also said that Banerjee injured herself during the incident.

The RPF personnel reportedly secured the doors of the AC coach as the situation continued. According to the police account, Banerjee then attempted to escape by breaking the glass. She was eventually deboarded at Dahanu railway station and handed over to the Government Railway Police (GRP).

Mishra also alleged that Banerjee damaged his uniform and mobile phone during the confrontation. The incident reportedly continued for more than an hour, leaving other passengers in the coach shaken.

Banerjee was taken into custody by Borivali railway police the following morning. Borivali GRP inspector Kunda Gavade said eyewitnesses indicated that the actress may have been distressed after being unable to secure an AC coach ticket. Gavade said that when Banerjee was asked to contact relatives or seek legal counsel, she refused and instead demanded that she be arrested. “She calmed down after the FIR was registered,” Gavade said.

An FIR was registered against Banerjee on August 13. Police booked her for offences including endangering safety, causing grievous harm to public servants, assault and intentional insult.

She was served a notice and released on bail.
