Apple is expected to unveil the iPhone 18 series in just a few weeks, and while the design may not undergo a dramatic transformation, the upgrades rumoured for the Pro models suggest this year’s refresh could be more significant than it first appears.
Instead of chasing an all-new look, Apple is reportedly focusing on refining the experience where it matters most: performance, battery life, photography and artificial intelligence. If the leaks prove accurate, the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max could arrive with Apple’s first 2nm processor, camera improvements aimed at photography enthusiasts and a display that makes better use of the front panel.
Here’s a closer look at the five biggest upgrades expected on the iPhone 18 Pro lineup.
iPhone 18 Pro: 5 expected upgrades
1. A fresh colour palette
Apple is tipped to introduce a new hero colour for its Pro lineup this year. Reports suggest the Cosmic Orange finish could make way for a new Dark Cherry option, expected to feature a rich maroon-inspired finish.
Alongside it, Apple is also rumoured to offer Light Blue, Dark Grey and Silver, giving buyers a mix of bold and classic finishes without making major changes to the phone’s overall design.
2. A smarter, more efficient display
The display sizes are expected to remain unchanged at 6.3 inches for the iPhone 18 Pro and 6.9 inches for the Pro Max. The bigger story, however, could be what happens around the screen.
Multiple
reports suggest Apple may significantly reduce the size of the Dynamic Island, potentially shrinking it by as much as 35 per cent. The company is also expected to adopt LTPO+ display technology, which should improve power efficiency and help extend battery life without increasing display size.
3. Apple’s first 2nm processor
Performance is likely to receive one of its biggest jumps in years.
The iPhone 18 Pro series is widely expected to debut with Apple’s A20 Pro chipset, reportedly built using a 2nm manufacturing process. Early estimates point to performance gains of around 15 per cent, alongside as much as 30 per cent better power efficiency compared to the previous generation.
Reports also indicate Apple could use TSMC’s Wafer-Level Multi-Chip Module (WMCM) packaging technology, allowing memory to sit closer to the processor. That change could improve bandwidth and help Apple Intelligence features run more efficiently.
4. The biggest iPhone battery yet
Battery life has become one of the most closely watched aspects of every new iPhone launch, and this year Apple may be preparing a notable upgrade.
According to tipster Ice Universe, the Chinese version of the iPhone 18 Pro Max could feature a 5,500mAh battery—potentially the largest ever fitted inside an iPhone. The extra capacity may come at the cost of a thicker chassis, with the device rumoured to measure around 9mm and weigh close to 240g.
5. A camera upgrade focused on creativity
Rather than increasing megapixel counts again, Apple could instead focus on giving users more creative control.
Leaks suggest the company may introduce a manual aperture adjustment system for the primary camera. If implemented, users would be able to control how much light reaches the sensor, improving flexibility in different lighting conditions while also making it easier to create a more natural-looking background blur without relying entirely on software processing.
iPhone 18 Pro: India price leak
The iPhone 18 Pro may also arrive with a
higher price tag in India.
According to multiple reports, the base variant could start at around Rs 1,39,900, roughly Rs 5,000 more than the launch price of the iPhone 17 Pro. The 256GB version is tipped to cost around Rs 1,44,900, while the larger iPhone 18 Pro Max could begin at approximately Rs 1,54,900.
The expected increase would not be entirely unexpected. Memory chip prices have risen sharply over the past year as global demand has accelerated, fuelled in part by the rapid expansion of artificial intelligence infrastructure. Those higher component costs are already being felt across the technology industry.
Apple has also adjusted prices for products such as the iPad Air and MacBook Air in India in recent months, making a similar move for its next-generation iPhone lineup appear plausible.
As always, none of these details have been officially confirmed by Apple. But if the current wave of leaks is accurate, the iPhone 18 Pro could be less about reinventing the iPhone and more about making meaningful improvements to the features users rely on every day. That combination of faster silicon, longer battery life, a more capable camera and AI-focused hardware could make it one of Apple’s most well-rounded upgrades in recent years—even if buyers have to pay a little more for it.
