An Indian founder has explained why he chose to leave the US and move to Europe, saying the decision was shaped by his wish to live in different parts of the world. For him, the move was not mainly about money or business.
He said he had been thinking about moving to Europe for years and waited until his company was in a position that allowed him to make the change.
His First Europe Trip Changed His View
Nand Javia spoke about his move to Europe in an Instagram video. He said his first visit to the continent was in 2022, when he went to Spain as part of a student exchange programme.
“People ask me, “Why did I move to Europe?” Well, in 2022, when I first came to Spain for the first time ever, I came for a student exchange program to Spain, and I absolutely fell in love with Europe,” he said.
Javia said he did not have much personal experience of Europe before that trip. After visiting Spain, he travelled to other countries before eventually returning to the US for his studies.
When he later got an opportunity to move to Europe, he decided to take it. “Hey, I’m going to take this. I’m going to move to Prague,” he recalled thinking.
He said travelling to different countries also made him realise that spending several years in one country can limit how people see the rest of the world.
He Had Planned The Move Years Ago
Javia said relocating to Europe was not something he decided overnight. He had been considering the move for several years and waited for the right time. “It was a long plan, so it was not like an immediate decision, but pretty much like four or five years ago, I actually decided that I want to move to Europe at some point,” he said.
He eventually made the move after his company reached a stage where he could continue running and growing it from another country.
He Chose Global Experiences Over Chasing Wealth
Javia said his bigger goal is to experience life in different parts of the world rather than focus only on building wealth. “My primary goal in life is to become a global citizen and have experiences from around the world. It’s not to become a millionaire.”
He also admitted that leaving the US meant giving up what he sees as a stronger place for making money. “America is the place to become a millionaire. Europe is not the place to become a millionaire,” he said, adding that accepting this choice took him time.
