Continuing with one of its most successful franchises, Disney and Pixar confirmed development on Incredibles 3 at the 2024 D23 Expo. This news came after 2018’s Incredibles 2 became the fourth-highest-grossing movie of the year with a $1.24 billion haul, trailing only Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, Black Pantherand Avengers: Infinity War. After Craig T. Nelson’s Bob Parr led the first movie, Holly Hunter’s Helen Parr took on the leading role duties in the sequel, which pitted her against a villain in Catherine Keener’s Evelyn Deavor, all before superheroes were legally allowed to operate again.
Incredibles 3 will take a different direction from the original two movies, as Peter Sohn is taking over directing duties from Brad Bird (who is still set to write the script). Additionally, Nelson and Hunt are both confirmed to reprise their roles as Bob and Helen Parr, although the rest of the voice cast is being kept under wraps. Now, as this anticipated sequel moves further into production, fans finally have their first idea of what to expect from the Parr family in their third movie.
Disney shared the first new look at Disney and Pixar’s Incredibles 3 during the Friday night panel at the 2026 D23 Expo. This included a new version of the threequel’s title card and concept art of Bob Parr, Helen Parr, and their kids in action.
Additionally, Pixar CCO Pete Docter teased the first plot details from the threequel, revisiting the end of the last movie from 2018 and explaining how the events of the previous film set up the story for Incredibles 3:
“If you remember, in the last film, Supers are officially legal again, thanks to this guy, Winston Deavor. Now he’s an entrepreneur at heart, so Dever is launching the Superhero League. It’s a heavily sponsored organization built on a massive platform of branding, marketing, and merchandising — something we don’t really know anything about at Disney.”
Docter then confirmed that Violet and Dash Parr look to “prove themselves as capable Supers” away from their parents, setting them up to be the main stars of the third Incredibles movie:
“They want to prove that they are ready to be real Supers, and their parents aren’t so convinced. So they’ve been sneaking out at night to protect the city, and it doesn’t go over so well at home. To make matters worse, they are struggling to contain Jack-Jack.”
This continued into a discussion about the movie’s new threat and villain, which will have a personal impact on Bob:
“A new threat is taking a heavy toll on Bob, who’s grappling with his own relevance in a world of Supes that may have outgrown him. Because even though Supers are legal again, that doesn’t mean all Supers are good.”
As Docter tried to tease a “super villain with more power than all the family put together and all of the supers,” he was cut off by Edna Mode, who reminded him not to spoil too much before the movie is released in Jun. 2028.
These teases set the Parr family up for what should be the quintet’s most emotional story to date, with Violet, Dash, and Jack-Jack being the main focus while Bob and Helen take supporting roles. The invisibility/forcefield-wielding Violet and her speedy brother will now get to show off even more of their abilities, and after Jack-Jack’s powers came to fruition in front of his parents, they’ll have to learn how to keep the baby under control as well.
With recording for the movie having reportedly started in Mar. 2026Disney and Pixar are still early in the process of bringing the Incredibles back. Thankfully, these new teases have finally left us with an idea of what to expect.
Incredibles 3 will debut in theaters on Jun. 16, 2028.
