EXCLUSIVE: After Raj and DK, Salman Khan in talks with Farhan Akhtar for a massive period drama

On January 5 this year, Pinkvilla first revealed that Salman Khan is teaming up with The Family Man makers Raj and DK for an action-comedy film. After locking an action-comedy, Bollywood superstar Salman Khan is now exploring another ambitious project. Pinkvilla has exclusively learnt that Salman is in talks with Farhan Akhtar for a large-scale period drama based on one of the most celebrated characters from Indian history.

According to sources, the conversations between Salman Khan and Farhan Akhtar have been ongoing for over a month. The actor is said to have responded positively to the story and scale of the project, which is being planned as a theatrical action spectacle.

“Salman Khan and Farhan Akhtar have been meeting regularly over the last month and discussing a potential collaboration. Salman has loved what he has heard so far and has shown keen interest in the project. The talks are still at an early stage and have not yet reached the paperwork phase, but both sides are excited about the possibility of coming together for the first time,” a source informed Pinkvilla.

The source further reveals, “It is a massive period action drama mounted on a grand scale. The idea is to tell the story across 2 films.” However, more clarity on the project and its progress is expected by the end of the year.

If everything falls into place, the untitled period drama could become Salman Khan’s next feature after his superhero comedy with Raj and DK.

At present, Salman is busy shooting for director Vamshi Paidipally’s action entertainer and is expected to begin work on the Raj and DK film by October 2026. The proposed period film will be backed by Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani’s Excel Entertainment and is likely to go on floors in the summer of 2027.

While the director’s name is being kept under wraps for now, sources confirm that Farhan Akhtar is attached to the project strictly as a producer and will not be directing the film.
