Given the growing rivalry between the two European giants in recent seasons, the latest theory has gained traction among supporters.

Conflict in the opening match of the World Cup

Despite the excitement surrounding his transfer, Bernardo Silva’s first senior appearance since joining Real Madrid did not go exactly to plan.

Starting for Portugal in their World Cup opener against DR Congo, the midfielder struggled to make his usual impact and was substituted at half-time.

The early yellow card seemed to affect his performance, while Portugal also found it difficult to break down a disciplined defensive block.

Silva, who was playing on the right wing, was unable to influence the game the way fans were accustomed to seeing it.

He registered 23 touches and completed 17 of 18 passes, including four in the final third, but he rarely threatened to take control of the game.

However, it must be remembered that a disappointing World Cup performance is unlikely to worry Real Madrid.
