The Vision returns.
Paul Bettany and James Spader took the stage during D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event to unveil the first trailer for Marvel Television’s VisionQuest. Bettany stars in the all-new original Disney+ series as the Visionwith Spader reprising his role as Ultron. The series will debut October 14 exclusively on Disney+.
The actors joined Marvel Studios President and executive producer Kevin Feige on stage, where they opened up about how VisionQuest will conclude the epic trilogy that began with 2021’s award-winning WandaVision and 2024’s acclaimed Agatha All Along.
“It’s been an enormous joy playing the Vision as he’s evolved over the years,” Bettany told the crowd. “He’s been an Avenger, a father, a partner to Wanda, and he’s helped turned the tide in some fairly enormous battles. He made the ultimate sacrifice and rather inconveniently died several times, which I can tell you is an act that can make longterm financial planning difficult. But I am told that in the Marel Universe, no one is ever really dead — unless Kevin says they’re dead. And even then, I wouldn’t really trust him anyway.”
When VisionQuest begins, Vision, rebooted and having escaped from those who sought to weaponize him, has been in hiding. Searching for new meaning, he consults the AI personas embedded in his programming, including F.R.I.D.A.Y., E.D.I.T.H., J.A.R.V.I.S., and the infamous Ultron. His discreet existence ends when a bounty placed on his head thrusts him on the run with Thomas Shepard, a mysterious boy who may be Vision’s son, reincarnate. As Vision evades capture, he must confront his nature, resist Ultron’s influence, and unravel the enigma that is his young companion if he’s to survive.
“This vision is beginning to ask a more complicated questino: What, or perhaps who, is he?” Bettany continued. “And what is it that makes us actually human? Which brings us to the person you most want beside you during an existential crisis: Ultron. Yes, Ultron is back, and we’re going to figure out humanity together. So obviously, that should go extremely well.”
“Frankly, I can’t believe it took you so long to turn to me,” Spader added. “Everyone knows that Ultron has long been fascinated by humanity.”
“I seem to recall you were most interested in wiping them out,” Bettany deadpanned.
In addition to the first trailer, Marvel also shared the official poster for the series.
