Sourav Ganguly files a police complaint over defamatory posts on social media

He claimed that the posts were circulated from a page entitled “Sourav Ganguly fanswhich describes itself as an unofficial fan page, and demands action against those who run that page.

In his complaint to Thakurpukur Police Station, Ganguly He claimed that posts “aimed at damaging my reputation and creating a negative impression among the public” are being shared continuously.
The former cricketer said the page, which has more than 3.6 million followers, had caused serious harm to his personal and professional image by publishing false and damaging material.
“Being a public figure, I understand that opinions and criticism are part of public life; however, publishing misleading, defamatory and harmful content with the aim of damaging my reputation is unacceptable and requires appropriate legal action,” Ganguly said in the complaint.
He urged the police to identify the individuals or group running the page and take necessary action against them under the relevant provisions of the law. “I therefore request you to kindly register my complaint against the individuals/group running this page and take necessary action as per applicable laws,” Ganguly wrote in his complaint.
The former South also sought immediate intervention to prevent further circulation of such content on Social media Platforms.
He requested a comprehensive investigation, and said that the authorities must investigate the matter and “take immediate necessary measures to prevent further misuse of social media platforms to harm my reputation.”

A senior police officer confirmed receiving Ganguly’s complaint and said the matter was under consideration.
Ganguly, one of India’s most famous cricketers, captained the national team between 2000 and 2005 and later served as president of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). He is currently the president of Cricket Association of Bengal (cab).
