Real Madrid player Raul Asensio acquitted in sex tape sharing case soccer

In a separate incident, Real Madrid opened disciplinary proceedings against Asensio over his conviction for driving under the influence of alcohol.

A court on the Spanish island of Gran Canaria said that Real Madrid defender Raul Asensio was acquitted of charges related to sharing a sexually explicit video clip without the consent of the victims, including a minor.

Prosecutors dropped charges against Asensio on Thursday and reduced their requests for the sentences of three other former Real Madrid youth players after the victims told the court they had pardoned the defendants.

The other three players, who were accused of recording and sharing sexual videos of two teenage girls, one of whom was a minor, were sentenced to one year in prison. The sentences were suspended on the condition that no further crimes were committed during that period.

Asensio was accused of sharing the video but was not accused of filming it.

In a separate incident, Asensio was fined 14,400 euros ($16,800) and banned from driving for eight months after pleading guilty to drink driving, another court said on Wednesday.

The 23-year-old centre-back was three over the legal limit during the August 16 incident.

Earlier on Thursday, Real Madrid coach Jose Mourinho said the club had opened disciplinary proceedings against the player, but Asensio would remain part of his plans until the matter was resolved.

“He is a model professional,” Mourinho told reporters. “When he was fit, no one trained as hard as him.”

“Now that he has been injured for several weeks, he is the first to arrive and the last to leave [training]. But the Real Madrid player remains like this 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 12 months a year.

“Everything you do – outside your professional field – continues to reflect poorly on Real Madrid and continues to damage the reputation of a club whose standing should not be undermined.

“I’m not happy. Everyone makes mistakes, but a series of mistakes is something different.”

Mourinho said that Asensio did not play with the Spanish club this season due to a hamstring injury that is expected to keep him out of action for another two weeks.
