Aryna Sabalenka vs. Kamila Rakhimova
Atit: Aryna Sabalenka easily defeated Polina Iatsenko in the second round to achieve her 16th consecutive victory at the US Open. Sabalenka may face a tougher test against Kamila Rakhimova, who is in good form and has troubled Sabalenka in the past. This match will give an accurate reading of Sabalenka’s level, and I think she will be up to the challenge.
Prediction: Sabalenka at 2
Noreen: After a mid-season declineAryna Sabalenka looks locked in the first two matches. Kamila Rakhimova will look to extend the exchange and force the world number one into an extra shot, but I still expect Sabalenka’s power to shine through.

TOP: Sabalenka’s power and level of intensity should be too much for Rakimova, especially with the world number one seeking her third straight US Open title and 16th straight win in New York. Rakhimova has shown she is capable of causing an upset, but Sabalenka’s perfect 3-0 record in their contest and a 6-1, 6-0 thrashing of Roland Garros makes the defending champion the favorite to qualify.

Yasmine Paolini vs Sorana Cristea
Atit: Sorana Cirstea recorded another impressive win over the in-form Diane Barry in the second round. Cirstea made things a bit difficult in the end, but she will be happy to win in straight sets. She has never beaten Yasmine Paolini, but they haven’t played since 2024. Cristia has been in much better form all season, and I expect her to win this match.
Prediction: Cirstia at 3
Noreen: I am against the arrangement here. Yes, Paolini has not played much tennis over the past two months, but the Italian has been steadily finding her rhythm. She also holds a perfect 3-0 record in this match and her forehand should cause Cirstea a lot of problems.
Prediction: Paolini at 2
TOP: Paolini has the head-to-head advantage and finds her rhythm at the right time, but Cirstea’s confidence and comfort on fast courts makes this a much tougher test than her 3-0 record suggests.
Prediction: Cirstia at 3
Marta Kostyuk vs Ekaterina Alexandrova
Atit: Marta Kostyuk was tested against former champion Sloane Stephens in the second round, but she performed well and won in straight sets. She will be well aware of the threat posed by Ekaterina Alexandrova, and I expect her to lock up and get the win.
Prediction: Kostyuk at 2
Noreen: Kostyuk is having an exceptional season and this could be the tournament where she reaches her first Grand Slam final. She was close at Wimbledon, and her second-set response against an inspired Sloane Stephens indicates how well she can play under pressure. Alexandrova has the firepower, but Kostyuk is one of the best all-around athletes.
Prediction: Kostyuk at 3
TOP: Kostyuk’s confidence has soared after another big Slam win, and her improved all-court performance should give Alexandrova a lot to think about. With the Ukrainian arriving at Flushing Meadows in extremely good form and their last meeting four years ago now in the rearview mirror, Kostyuk is expected to put up a tough fight and continue her impressive run.

Karolina Muchova vs Emma Navarro
ATIT: Emma Navarro is heading in the right direction at the US Open after a tough season, but she had to work hard again in the second round against Katie McNally. Karolina Muchova will be a tougher opponent, and Navarro may not have the answer this time.
Forecast: rain at 2
Noreen: What a popular match we have in store. Navarro is playing at home and survived Louis Poisson before beating Katie McNally, so the confidence is there. But Muchova looked razor sharp in New York, carrying her Grand Slam-winning form in mixed doubles to the singles court. I will rely on Muchova, but this is the toughest match of the four matches.

TOP: Muchova looks set to dominate from the start, with her superior hard-court performance and solid defense likely revealing Navarro’s fatigue after two grueling three-set matches so far at the US Open. Expect the Czech to control the tempo of the match, absorb the crowd’s pressure, and win in straight sets.
