Diego Simeone explains what Julian Alvarez should do after the Barcelona transfer saga: “The step he will take in his life is…”

Julian Alvarez has returned to the Atletico Madrid squad after a summer dominated by speculation over his future, with Diego Simeone stating that the Argentine must now use the disappointment of missing out on a move to Barcelona as an opportunity.

Atletico travel to San Mames on Saturday to face Athletic Club, and Alvarez is set to return to the team after remaining at the Metropolitano after the transfer deadline.

Barcelona sought to sign the striker during the summer, but the move never materialized.

Argentina’s desire to join Barcelona That was not enough to convince Atletico to agree to the transfer, leaving the player to continue at Madrid.

Simeone was asked about the 26-year-old star ahead of the Athletic game and he confirmed he would be involved.

“Julian is training very well. He will be called up tomorrow and will be part of the team traveling to Bilbao. We expect the best from him, just as we do from all his teammates.”

Simeone wants Alvarez to learn from the setback

The Atletico coach did not reveal whether Alvarez would start or come off the bench. Instead, his message focused on how the striker would respond to Barcelona’s failed move.

“For me, life is full of opportunities. This is perhaps the opportunity that Julian has had to solve a whole range of issues in his life.

“We spend all our time learning, and unfortunately, we spend a lot of time judging. We all judge.

“This, that and the other. We need to judge less and focus more on learning.” The Atletico Madrid coach said, according to what was reported sports.

Simeone continued by emphasizing that the experience could help Alvarez develop beyond football itself.

“I think the step that Julian will definitely take in his life is pure learning. He has the opportunity for all the situations he needs to resolve within himself to make him a better person.”

Simeone wants the striker to move on rather than focus on what happened during the transfer window.

“For us to see him happy, that’s what we want: for him to be good, satisfied and to score goals for us.

“This is what Futri conveyed to him yesterday in a beautiful video, full of joy.”

Barcelona did not abandon the Alvarez idea

Alvarez remaining at Atletico does not necessarily mean that the Barcelona story is over.

Rather, as mentioned before, Barcelona already Preparing to try again in January.

The club could have between €65m and €70m of Financial Fair Play space available when the winter window opens, giving them potential room to reconsider a process that proved impossible over the summer.

This financial space could also be used elsewhere, such as strengthening the centre-back, but for now, Alvarez remains the main target.
