Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Vijay steps on Formula 1 gas, announces mega Olympic city in Chennai

A world-class Olympic city, a dedicated motorsport city, and an attempt to bring Formula 1 to Chennai. Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay stepped on the sports gas with a number of big announcements.
The Prime Minister announced in the Assembly on Thursday that his government will set up a world-class Tamil Nadu Olympic City in Chennai.
The Olympic City will be developed by the Tamil Nadu Sports Development Authority and will feature world-class sports arenas, state-of-the-art sports equipment, a high-performance training centre, and dedicated centers for sports science and sports medicine.
The Prime Minister announced that the facility will also have modern infrastructure, including accommodation for athletes and coaches.
The Olympic City aims to establish an integrated sports center to provide athletes with advanced training and support facilities, to help athletes from Tamil Nadu win more medals at the Olympic Games and other international sporting events.

“World-class infrastructure, Olympic infrastructure and training infrastructure will be built along with a residential facility. This will help Chennai host international events and produce Olympic athletes,” Vijay said.
The Prime Minister also announced that a dedicated motor sports city will be set up in Chennai to host Formula 1-4 races in the city.
“An Olympic city will be set up in Chennai. A motor sports city will also be set up in Chennai to host Formula 1 races. Youth talents in motor sports will be identified, and training and racing opportunities will be provided to create national and international champions,” the Prime Minister said in the assembly.
“The creation of world-class motor racing venues will provide opportunities for tourism, the private vehicle manufacturing industries, employment and economic development.”
In June, the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports (MYAS) established a task force to monitor motorsport with the aim of restarting Formula 1 racing in the country by the end of 2028.
“We will try to bring Formula 1 back to India by 2028. That is why we have set up a task force that will monitor motorsport in the country and submit its report to the ministry,” a source in MYAS told ANI on Saturday.
