Today’s State of Play revealed a new partnership between the brick-building toy makers at LEGO and the PlayStation brand. Following on the heels of other video game console models like the NES, Game Boyand Sega Genesisthe new LEGO PlayStation looks like a nostalgic throwback focused on celebrating the origins of the original 1994 design.
The LEGO PlayStation includes several features and gimmicks that should bring a smile to the face of gamers who recall that mid-90s console. The set includes both an opening button, a light, and a controller that can be plugged into the larger set. Borrowing the idea from other successful brick-built recreation sets, the LEGO PlayStation also includes two hidden dioramas that nod to early successes for the PlayStation brand – one focused on Ape Escape and the other on Gran Turismo.
As of the State of Play airing, LEGO hasn’t revealed too much more; in particular, we don’t yet know pricing, release date, or brick count. However, the team has promised more info on the yet-to-update Lego.com/PlayStationso we expect some news to show up there sometime soon.
