Captain Shubman Gill has moved down two places among batsmen, Jasprit Bumrah has dropped one spot among bowlers, while Devdutt Padikkal has risen to 54th among Indians in the latest ICC Test rankings released on Wednesday (September 2, 2026).

Gill, who returned with just one half-century across three innings on the Sri Lanka tour, has moved down two places to ninth as wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant remains the highest-ranked Indian batsman in Test cricket at seventh.
There was no change in Yashasvi Jaiswal’s position as the Indian opener was ranked outside the top 10 at 11th.y.
Padikkal, who was India’s leading batsman on the island nation’s tour with 328 runs across two Tests and two centuries, moved up five places to 54th.y position.
However, the in-form Bumrah has lost his second place in the Test bowlers’ rankings and now ranks third behind Australia’s Mitchell Starc and New Zealander Matt Henry.
Bumrah had missed the Sri Lanka tour due to a knee injury, which kept him out of action since mid-July.
Bumrah was named in India’s squad for the three-match T20I series against Afghanistan in mid-September but his availability is subject to fitness clearance.
