It’s the status quo with Rohit Sharma. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has indicated that there is no imminent threat to the former captain’s position whose availability for the 2027 World Cup has been the subject of intense speculation.
“You must have seen that he is playing great,” BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia said after reviewing the Indian team’s performance at the BCCI headquarters on Thursday (September 3).
The match was attended by India’s captains, Shubman Gill (Test and ODI) and Shreyas Iyer (T20Is). Head coach Gautam Gambhir and CoE team president VVS Laxman were also present. Ajit Agarkar, the chief selector, was conspicuously absent. He was outside Mumbai and apparently in an internet restricted area.
The BCCI secretary also denied talk of Laxman considering a new role, such as cricket director. He also ruled out any immediate change in the Agarkar-led selection committee although his absence from the meeting will continue to raise speculation.
