Kars is the subject of a cricket body investigation into his conduct after he was briefly detained on suspicion of being drunk and disorderly outside a bar in Derby while celebrating Durham’s win last month.
Derbyshire Police have since confirmed they are investigating allegations of assault on the night in question. It is not clear at this point whether Kars was involved in the alleged assault.
When ECB chief Richard Thompson was asked on Sky Sports during the second Test about the behavior of England players, he said: “I have to be careful what I say… The cricket regulatory body is involved in a recent event, a potential criminal investigation, so I don’t want to do anything that could compromise that.”
Carse has been replaced in the England squad for the second Test by Hampshire fast bowler Sonny Baker, who has retained his place for next week’s third Test at Edgbaston. The only change to the squad between the Tests is that Surrey’s Matt Fisher has been left out, leaving England to choose from 15 names next week.
England are also expected to name their white-ball squads for the upcoming T20I and ODI series against Sri Lanka later this week.
