Not only are Spain good at football, they have even broken Australia’s world record in cricket

Not only are Spain good at football, as evidenced by their recent 2026 World Cup win, but they appear to be having great success in cricket as well. While the country is still a few years away from becoming a cricketing powerhouse, her stunning 22-yard run is turning heads. The European nation recorded its 21st successive win on Friday, beating Finland by eight wickets to boost its hopes of qualifying for the 2028 T20 World Cup. In the process, Spain’s stunning victory in international cricket helped break Australia’s world record.

Spain faced Finland in a European Subregion C qualifying match, registering a massive 132-run win. Ranked 28th by the ICC in T20 cricket, Spain have not suffered a single defeat in T20 international matches over the past three years. This amazing run started with their win over Isle of Man.

During this period, Spain beat Jersey, Croatia, Czech Republic, Greece and Finland. With its 21st victory, Spain broke a record it had once held Ricky Ponting– Led by the Australian team.

Under Ponting’s captaincy, Australia were unbeaten in 17 ODIs, including a win over India in the ODI World Cup final in 2003. The Australians then won three consecutive Test matches against the West Indies, taking their total of consecutive wins in international cricket to 20.

Spain set the record for the most consecutive wins in T20I cricket in 2024 when they won 14 matches. They finished 2025 with six more wins to their name, equaling Australia’s record for most consecutive wins in international cricket. By beating Finland in their first match of 2026, Spain broke Australia’s all-time record.

It is also worth noting that Spain have featured in 50 T20Is since January 2019. They have won 41 matches and suffered just eight defeats.
