“Paris Saint-Germain is pleased to announce that it has acquired the services of Ferran Torres. The Spanish World Cup-winning striker has signed with the club until 2031,” a club statement said on Saturday.
Torres said in a statement that he was “happy to start a new adventure at an ambitious club like Paris Saint-Germain.”
“I would like to thank President Nasser Al-Khelaifi, [PSG’s football advisor] Luis Campos and coach Luis Enrique for giving me the opportunity to join the team, which I hope to help win as many trophies as possible.
The former Valencia and Manchester City star previously worked with Luis Enrique, who as Spain coach gave him his first international cap in a Nations League match against Germany in 2020.
Torres, who won three Spanish league titles while at Barcelona, came on as a substitute in the World Cup final, and the top scorer, who played 65 international matches, scored a goal in extra time to lead his team to victory. Argentina’s hopes were dashed of retaining their title.
Nicknamed “The Shark”, he joined Barcelona in the 2021/22 transfer window and scored 65 goals in 207 matches for Barcelona, including in Final victory in the King’s Cup Against Real Madrid in 2025.
He scored 21 goals and provided three assists in 49 appearances in all competitions for Barcelona in the last season, as the club retained the Spanish League title.
Barcelona said in a statement on its website: “The club would like to express its gratitude to Ferran Torres for his commitment during the past four and a half seasons as a Blaugrana player, and wishes him all the best in the next stage of his professional career.”
His arrival in the French capital could raise Liverpool’s hopes of signing 23-year-old Paris Saint-Germain winger Bradley Barkula, who impressed for France at the World Cup.
The two clubs have been in discussions for weeks, with PSG’s apparently asking price of around 150 million euros ($173 million) a stumbling block.
