Update on Chelsea Green’s status as WWE Women’s Champion

A report on Thursday from WrestleVotes on Fightful Select said that WWE Women’s Champion Chelsea Green is expected to be out of in-ring action for a number of weeks.
The report notes that a WWE source relayed to WrestleVotes that Green is not expected to be removed from TV or stripped of the championship. She is expected to appear on this Friday’s episode of SmackDown at TD Garden in Boston.
During last Friday’s episode of SmackDown, Green suffered a broken orbital bone after she took the Rolling Encore finisher from WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions Lainey Reed and Fallon Henley. Green, who took the pin, teamed up with Women’s United States Champion Tiffany Stratton. Green came out wearing a t-shirt that read ‘permanent champion’ and was introduced as the Women’s Champion by commentary.
Green won the title in a ladder match to crown a new Interim Women’s Champion, while Rhea Ripley is currently out of action recovering from surgery for a torn meniscus she suffered when she defended the title against Jade Cargill at Clash in Italy back on May 31.
Fightful added in the report that, internally, some were impressed by the number of social media engagements Green’s title at SummerSlam actually generated.
