4.5m to 4.8m SUV Sales July 2026


In the earlier articles, we discussed the Sub 4m SUV sales (Brezza, Nexon segment) and sub 4.5m SUV sales (Creta, Seltos segment). Mahindra continued to dominate the 4.5m to 4.8m SUV segment in July 2026, accounting for three of the top six positions. Total segment sales stood at 40,150 units, up 24.26% YoY and 6.32% MoM.

Mahindra Scorpio and Scorpio N together sold 16,009 units, registering 16.45% YoY and 13.56% MoM growth. The SUV alone captured nearly 40% of the segment, continuing its long-standing dominance. With new Scorpio N launched recentlysales momentum is expected to continue with festive season approaching.

XUV7XO retained second place with 8,233 units. Sales were up 16.71% YoY, although they declined 10.94% compared to June. Mahindra’s electric flagship, XEV 9S, finished third with 4,131 units, recording a modest 2.81% MoM improvement. Tata Harrier ranked fourth with 3,301 units, growing 48.96% YoY and 11.44% MoM. Harrier volumes have improved following the addition of the EV variant.
Safari Improves, Alcazar Recovers, Hector Declines
Mahindra XEV 9e recorded 1,793 units, down 27.17% YoY and 10.62% MoM, reflecting softer demand compared to earlier months. Tata Safari posted 1,453 units, improving 16.99% YoY and 14.32% MoM. Hyundai Alcazar registered 862 units. While monthly sales jumped 183.55% over June, largely due to a low base of 304 units, volumes remained well below last year’s 1,419 units, resulting in a 39.25% YoY decline.

MG Hector and Hector Plus together sold 713 units. Despite a 23.14% YoY increase, sales fell 24.95% compared to June. MG will soon launch its all-new ADAPT platform-based electric SUV, likely to be called Hector Tomahawk EVlater this month.
New Entrants And Premium Models
In a comparatively premium segment, Toyota Fortuner continued to post consistent numbers at 3,189 units. Sales were almost flat YoY with a marginal 1.36% decline, but improved 26.85% over June. Skoda Kodiaq continued to record steady premium SUV volumes with 156 units, up 47.17% YoY. Jeep Compass (101 units) and Meridian (82 units) continued to struggle, both registering declines on both yearly and monthly bases.
Among the new models, Honda ZRV Hybrid entered the segment with 58 units in its first month on sale. The SUV was launched only a few days before the end of July, making this an initial partial-month performance. Similarly, Volkswagen Tayron recorded 45 units, continuing deliveries after its recent introduction. At the bottom of the chart were Volkswagen Tiguan (23 units) and Citroen C5 Aircross, which managed just 1 unitduring the month.
