Her Love Marriage Became A Nightmare, Husband Allegedly Beat Her, Demanded A Flat As Divorce Settlement

Shweta Tiwari needs no introduction. She is a familiar face on Indian television who has captivated audiences with her performances over the years in shows like Kasauti Zindagi Kay, Parvarrish, Mere Dad Ki Dulhan, Begusarai and Main Hoon Aparajita. The actress has also been a part of popular reality shows like Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa, Nach Baliye and Khatron Ke Khiladi. But apart from her shows, Shweta has also always been a talk of the town because of her relationships.

Shweta Tiwari married Raja Chaudhary in 1998 and the two welcomed their daughter, Palak Tiwari. However, their nine-year marriage came to an end in 2007, with Shweta citing domestic violence and Raja’s alcoholism issues as reasons for the separation.

The legal battle dragged on for years, and when the divorce was finalised in 2012, part of the settlement required Shweta to hand over a Mumbai flat worth about Rs 93 lakh to Raja.

Reportedly, the legal team initially proposed joint ownership of the property between Raja and their daughter, Palak Tiwari. However, Raja allegedly insisted on sole ownership, which left Shweta shocked.

In an interview, Shweta stated that Raja was willing to ‘sacrifice’ their daughter for the property, demanding the flat in exchange for granting the divorce. “I was shocked when Raja said, ‘I will sacrifice my daughter for property. Give me the flat and I will give you a divorce,” she told Hindustan Times.

Shweta remarried in July 2013, this time to actor Abhinav Kohli, after dating him for about three years. The couple appeared to be building a fresh start, and in November 2016 they welcomed a son, Reyansh.

However, that second marriage also soured badly. In August 2019, Shweta filed a domestic violence complaint against Abhinav, alleging that he harassed and abused not only her but also her daughter Palak, leading to a serious legal confrontation. Shweta now lives with her children and is a single mother.
