Redmi Turbo 5 Review: The Fastest REDMI Ever Built for India

The Redmi Turbo series is finally here. India gets it first with the Redmi Turbo 5 and Xiaomi has not held back. Fastest processor ever on a REDMI device. Biggest battery ever on a REDMI device. Brightest screen ever on a REDMI device. Three records. One phone. Starting at Rs. 35,999 with bank offers.

That’s a lot of claims. Let’s break down whether they actually hold up.

What Is the Redmi Turbo Series?

Good question. The Turbo series is Xiaomi’s mid-premium performance sub-brand, already popular in China. This is its first appearance in India and the Redmi Turbo 5 is the opening act. Xiaomi positions it squarely at what they call the “Indian Power User”: someone gaming at midnight, shooting content at noon, paying for chai in a cab, all while five apps are running in the background.

You know the type. You probably are the type.

Design: RPM Ring Lights Are the Real Talking Point

Pick this phone up and the first thing anyone will ask about is those RPM (Redmi Pixel Matrix) ring lights around the dual camera module. They’re inspired by racing car headlights a design choice that’s either brilliant or over the top depending on your taste. They pulse and react to calls, notifications, music, and gaming in 8 built-in colours. It’s genuinely eye-catching, especially face-down on a table.

Beyond the party trick, build quality is serious. Dual-sided premium glassan aerospace-grade metal middle frameand Corning Gorilla Glass 7i protection front and back. At 8.18mm thickness, the phone sits slim in hand at 204 grams.

Colour options: Asphalt Black, Nitro Blue, Turbo White.

Display: 3,500 Nits on a Mid-Range Phone

The 6.59-inch AMOLED display is genuinely impressive. Peak brightness of 3,500 nits is the highest ever on a REDMI phone and puts it ahead of plenty of phones costing significantly more.

Display Spec Detail
Size 6.59 inches
Type AMOLED, 12-bit
Resolution 1.5K (1268 x 2756 px)
Refresh Rate 120Hz AdaptiveSync
Peak Brightness 3,500 nits (25% OPR)
PPI 460
Colour Depth 68.7 billion colours
Touch Sampling 480Hz (2560Hz in Game Turbo Mode)
PWM Dimming 3,840Hz
Certification Dolby Vision, TUV Rheinland Triple

Under direct sunlight at full brightness, this screen holds its own. The Dolby Vision certification and 3,840Hz PWM dimming are welcome additions your eyes will thank you during those three-hour gaming sessions.

The MediaTek Dimensity 8500 Ultra is the headline. This is a 4nm chip with a max clock speed of 3.4GHz and it’s the first time this processor has launched in India. AnTuTu scores land around 2.3 million+which is firmly in flagship territory.

Pair that with LPDDR5X Ultra RAM (available on the 12GB variant) and UFS 4.1 storageand you’ve got a phone that loads apps, handles multitasking, and switches tasks without hesitation.

For gaming specifically, Game Turbo Mode with WildBoost Optimization dynamically allocates CPU, GPU, and DDR resources in real time. The Advanced 3D IceLoop Cooling System uses a 5,300mm² stainless steel vapour chamber plus graphite layer Redmi claims 3x better thermal management, capable of sustaining 120fps across 20+ titles without throttling.

That’s not marketing fluff. The hardware is genuinely set up for it.

Note: LPDDR5X Ultra RAM is available on the 12GB variant only.

Battery and Charging: The Biggest Headline

7,540mAh. That’s the largest battery ever shipped on a REDMI phone in India.

To put that in perspective most phones in this segment run 5,000 to 5,500mAh. The Turbo 5 is packing nearly 50% more. Redmi claims 2.3+ days of typical usage, and over 5 years of battery health retention.

Charging is equally serious:

Charging Spec Detail
Fast Charging 100W HyperCharge
0 to 51% 30 minutes
Full Charge 70 minutes
Charger in Box Yes, 100W included
Reverse Charging 27W wired

The 100W charger ships in the box. No buying it separately. And the 27W reverse charging means you can top up a friend’s phone or a pair of earbuds directly from the Turbo 5 handy on long travel days.

The Advanced Smart Battery Management System monitors your habits, adapts overnight charging, and is baked into HyperOS for long-term health optimisation.

Camera: Sony IMX882 with OIS and 4K 60fps

Camera Spec
Main Camera 50MP Sony IMX882, OIS + EIS
Ultra-Wide 8MP
Selfie 20MP AI
Video 4K at 60fps

The 50MP Sony IMX882 sensor with both OIS and EIS is a strong combination for this price point. Xiaomi’s Imaging Engine handles processing, promising truer colours, better zoom clarity, and improved night portrait accuracy for Indian skin tones.

Turbo Snap burst mode lets you fire off up to 100 consecutive shots in 4.4 seconds useful for kids, pets, or anything that refuses to sit still. The AI Image Editing Suite (AI Erase, AI Expand, AI Beautify) is integrated into HyperOS for quick post-processing without needing a separate app.

Honestly, the camera is solid for social media and everyday shooting. It’s not going to threaten a dedicated camera phone, and there’s no telephoto lens which some competitors at this price do offer. But for most users, it will be more than sufficient.

Durability: IP69K on a Mid-Range Phone

This is not something you see often. The Redmi Turbo 5 carries quad-rated protection: IP66, IP68, IP69, and IP69K. That covers rain, submersion, and high-pressure water jets.

Combined with Corning Gorilla Glass 7ia metal frame, and SGS Premium Performance certification (crush, drop, and bend resistance), this phone can take a beating. The IP69K rating alone puts it ahead of most phones in the under Rs. 50,000 space.

Software: HyperOS 3 on Android 16

The Redmi Turbo 5 ships with Android 16 running under Xiaomi HyperOS 3 the same OS version on Xiaomi’s flagship 17 series. Xiaomi is committing to 4 years of Android OS updates and 6 years of security updateswhich is a serious long-term promise at this price.

Notable software features:

  • Xiaomi HyperIsland — customisable home screen and widget system
  • Xiaomi HyperConnect — mirror and control your phone from a PC
  • Xiaomi HyperAI — on-device AI tools
  • Google Gemini integration
  • Circle to Search
  • Xiaomi Offline Communication — peer-to-peer connectivity without a network

Audio

Dual stereo speakers with 200% louder output compared to a single speaker setup. Dolby Atmos, Hi-Res Audioand Hi-Res Wireless certifications. This is a proper multimedia setup movies and games benefit noticeably from the stereo separation.

Should You Buy the Redmi Turbo 5?

At Rs. 35,999 (effective), the Redmi Turbo 5 makes a clear case for itself. The battery life alone 7,540mAh with 100W charging included in box justifies serious consideration. The Dimensity 8500 Ultra is a genuine upper-midrange performer, the display is exceptional for this segment, and the IP69K rating is frankly rare at any price under Rs. 50,000.

The trade-offs? No telephoto lens. The 8MP ultra-wide is nothing special. And if raw camera versatility is what you’re after, something like the Xiaomi 17T or OnePlus Nord 6 might suit you better.

But if battery life, gaming performance, a stunning screen, and rugged durability are your priorities the Turbo 5 is hard to beat at this price. This is one of the more interesting phones to launch in India this year.
