Dhurandhar’s script was given by PMO? Rakesh Bedi reacts to viral theory

Rakesh Bedi has dismissed long-standing rumours that the script for Ranveer Singh’s blockbuster Dhurandhar franchise originated in the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO). Referring to the franchise’s popular ‘buttocks’ dialogues, the actor rejected the claim. He also revealed that several humorous moments in the films stemmed from his own suggestions, despite director Aditya Dhar’s initial hesitation about incorporating comedy into the story.

The 71-year-old was present at an event in New Delhi on Wednesday where he spoke at length about the film and his contribution to the franchise’s humour.

Referring to the dialogue during the discussion: “Your buttocks are very white,” Bedi said, “Now no one can write this line (Now this is one line that you can’t write).”

Bedi cited the same dialogue to dismiss rumours that the franchise’s script had originated in the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO). He said, “When this film hit, not many people said Dhurandhar Whatever script is there, it has been written by PMO. I said, tell me, who is the person in PMO who can write this line? No one can even think like this (No one could have written that line. When the film became a hit, some people claimed that the script of Dhurandhar came straight from the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO). I said, ‘Tell me, who in the PMO could possibly write a line like this?’ No one could even think of something like that).”

Bedi further revealed the comic relief seen in the films was not originally a major part of the screenplay. According to him, the idea emerged after he read the script multiple times and felt that the intense spy thriller could benefit from a few lighter moments.

Bedi said that after reading the script two or three times, he realised it was not only tense but also intensely serious. Given his natural inclination towards comedy, he felt there were several moments where a touch of humour could be added to provide comic relief.

“I told Aditya, ‘I can spot a few pockets where we could add some humour. Should I give it a try?’ He replied, ‘Rakesh jiit’s difficult to say right now. Let’s see how things unfold as we go along and work on it.’ Initially, he was a little reluctant, but as we progressed, he started enjoying it too, and I began enjoying it as well,” the actor said.

Rakesh Bedi has received widespread praise for playing Jameel Jamali in the Dhurandhar franchise. His character, an Indian intelligence operative sent to infiltrate Pakistan’s political establishment, spends years building a new identity before the film’s climax exposes him as an undercover agent. The twist became one of the biggest talking points of the franchise.

Dhurandhar released in theatres on December 5, 2025, while its sequel arrived on March 192026. The franchise stars Ranveer Singh, Akshaye Khanna, Sanjay Dutt, Arjun Rampal, R Madhavan, Sara Arjun, Rakesh Bedi, Gaurav Gera and Danish Pandor.

The films follow Jaskirat Singh Rangi, also known as Hamza Ali Mazari, who is sent to Pakistan’s Lyari region to dismantle a terror network. To complete his mission, he infiltrates a Baloch gang, marries the daughter of a local politician and gradually embeds himself within the community. Both films are currently streaming worldwide.
