Upcoming Hyundai Sub 4m Electric SUV Spied

It is expected that Hyundai’s new sub-4-meter electric SUV could be launched by year end or in early 2027
As part of its mega product offensive, Hyundai will be introducing 26 new models by FY2030. In the current financial year, two new SUVs will be launched. One of these will be a new subcompact electric SUV (codenamed HE1i), which will compete with rivals such as Tata Punch EV. Test mules have been spotted on multiple occasions, with the latest sighting reported from South Korea.
Hyundai sub-4m electric SUV – Design and features
Hyundai’s new subcompact electric SUV has a tall, boxy aesthetic. The vehicle’s body profile appears to be similar to the Hyundai Inster EV sold across global markets. While heavily camouflaged, features like top-mounted LED DRLs and split headlamps mounted lower above the bumper are noticeable.

The SUV is expected to get an upright front fascia and EV-specific features such as a closed-off grille. Body panelling appears to have a simple flat design, which gives the SUV a robust presence. The roofline and window line run almost parallel to the ground. Other key highlights include blacked-out ORVMs, a flat roof, functional roof rails, body cladding and sporty alloy wheels.
These wheels are 17-inchers in size and are wrapped with Apollo tyres on this test mule. At the rear, Hyundai’s new subcompact electric SUV is expected to get a raked windshield and chunky bumper design and rear overhang is one of the shortest. It is possible that pixel-style lighting elements can be installed at both the front and rear.

Interior, Equipment
Interior details of this SUV are not yet revealed. Considering the highly competitive market it will be entering, Hyundai’s new electric SUV is likely to get a comprehensive suite of premium features. For example, it could get dual 10.25-inch screens for the infotainment and instrument cluster. Other likely features include automatic climate control, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, ventilated front seats and a sunroof.
EV-specific features are likely to be offered such as Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) capability. Hyundai could offer flexible interior layouts, allowing users to accommodate a wide variety of cargo when required. Safety kit will be pretty robust and is likely to include Level 2 ADAS. Standard safety features will include 6 or 7 airbags and a 360 degree camera.

Powertrain options
Hyundai’s new subcompact electric SUV is likely based on a modified version of the modular E-GMP (K) platform. This platform is also in use with the Inster EV sold overseas. Powertrain configurations for the new electric SUV could be similar to that of Inster EV. The latter has battery pack options of 42 kWh and 49 kWh. Certified range is 300 km and 355 km, respectively, as per WLTP standards. India-spec EV might get different battery pack options.
Support for DC fast charging of up to 120 kW is expected to be available with Hyundai’s new subcompact electric SUV. It will allow the vehicle to achieve 10% to 80% charge in around 30 minutes. Hyundai has plans to sell this new EV not just in India, but also across multiple global markets. India will be the primary manufacturing hub for this SUV. With heavy localization, a competitive price point can be expected.
