Truth Behind Sierra CNG-

Tata has been known for offering a variety of powertrains across its products, and the same is expected with Sierra in the coming years. But this time, Tata is not the one behind this. In the featured video, there is no specification on the Sierra. But from our knowledge, we can expect it to feature a 1.5-litre NA petrol engine. Producing 105bhp and 145Nm. Also, the highlight would be the claimed mileage of about 17.4 kmpl. How would this engine react with the CNG kit?

Effect Of CNG On Sierra-

While the OEM engine is not tuned for CNG as a fuel. The CNG kit includes installation of a set of 8 injectors, a BLU Gas ECM, and the necessary electrical wiring. And not to forget the 12kg CNG tank in the boot. You can expect the Sierra with the aftermarket CNG to return about 28 km/kg. But there are some downsides to this as well. The CNG tank in the boot eats up a lot of the boot space, and the car warranty also goes for a toss.

The 28 km/kg mileage seems tempting at just spending about Rs 50,000, but we advise against doing this to your relatively new car. This might damage your engine in the long term, and the insurance company may decline your claim due to tampering with the electronics. Leaving you with a long bill for the repairs. Having heard all of this, would you still consider installing an aftermarket CNG system in your brand-new Sierra?
